| Here are some helpful hints and tips to take care of your
furniture
General cleaning
Always clean with warm water. Do not use abrasives or soap
products, as these can dry out and break down the surface
of furniture.
Dealing with spills
Leaving a pool of liquid on furniture for an extended period
of time will cause staining. Clean up any spills as soon
as possible, especially liquids like water, wine and coffee.
Use of solvents
Nail polish remover, metholated spirits, super glue and
acetone-based products will cause permanent damage by eating
into the affected area and removing the clear finish/stain.
Do not use silicone-based products to clean or polish, these
may lead to deterioration over time.
Heat sources
Never position furniture directly over any heat source.
This may cause 'heat shock' and lead to shrinking or permanent
damage. Most furniture can withstand hot liquids or mugs
that are spilled or placed on its surface.
Waxing
Cavendish Furniture recommends
the use of bees' wax and a cloth such as flannelette. When
waxing, work it into a thin film on your furniture. Then
grab a separate cloth to polish this film to a high lustre.
Always use an up and down motion that goes with the grain
of the wood. Use 'Pure Turpentine' if wax dries out on the
surface. |
